Food Distribution

RCMA Food Distribution

Job: Volunteer

Task: Arrange food for distribution

Situation: The food distribution was arranged by the RCMA daycare center for families in need of food. I volunteered with them for community service hours, but I gradually started going because I wanted to get help though from my community. Many of the families that came by for food were those from a migrant background and this impacted me on volunteering with them more often because I come from a migrant family.

Task: The volunteers that came and helped were mostly high school students because it was easy work to do to get services hours, so I worked with them throughout the day. I was assigned to build food boxes, filling them up with all the food that came from the truck. I also had to separate the good products from the bad ones because the food that was given to us was that of the stores that cleaned out the products and arranged them for new ones. At the end of the event, I helped clean up the setup of the food distribution, clearing up tables and recycling boxes.

Action: The first thing that I did once I arrived at the food distribution was to set up the tables so that they would be ready for the products to arrive. After that I built up boxes for the food and got to work on the products. I oversaw the fresh produce and set them up in each box accordingly. Once I was done with my task, I moved on to helping my team members with the raw products or loading them up onto vehicles. Finally, I put away all the tables and cleaned up the trash left over from the food products.

Result: Because I volunteered at the RCMA for their food distributions I found my passion to volunteer and help people in need. I learned how to work with a team, working together to accomplish our goals. Because of this I want to join the American Peace Corps. After I graduate college and continue to help and explore the world.
